Tsunomaru & Kuwasuke: two beetle grubs, taking it easy

Tsunomaru, a Japanese rhinoceros beetle grub, and Kuwasuke, a Japanese stag beetle grub, became neighbours on a breeder’s shelf. Their days, in episodes of about a minute. The videos are in Japanese.

  • Every Wed & Sat, 20:00 JST
  • From Saturday, 7 November 2026
A mat case and a mushroom bottle side by side on a breeding shelf: Tsunomaru in the mat case, Kuwasuke in the mushroom bottle.

What’s it about?

The two live on a breeder’s shelf. Tsunomaru in fermented mat and Kuwasuke in a mushroom bottle eat different food, and take different times to grow up. It’s the easygoing everyday life of two neighbours.

  • In step with the real seasons

Their time passes as fast as the real seasons. For now, both are grubs. Tsunomaru will pupate in early summer and become an adult in summer. Kuwasuke… doesn’t know yet.

  • The Beetle note of the day

Every episode ends with a breeding tip, the “Beetle note of the day”: when to change a mushroom bottle, how to read the mat, and more, one at a time.

  • About a minute an episode

Short episodes of about a minute, made for a phone held upright. Watch one whenever you have a moment.
