KKLOG’s Raise & Battle Game

Raise a beetle from an egg, then take on the forest guardians!

Raise your very own beetle from a tiny egg. The larva grows bigger and bigger, and one day it finally ecloses. Take your adult into Rock, Scissors, Paper battles, welcome the species you’ve always dreamed of, and carry your line on to the next generation.

  • Raise from an egg
  • Battle guardians
  • Collect beetles

Play free on the “Game” tab of the KKLOG app. No items are sold in the game.

The beetles in this game are virtual and exist only in the game. No real beetles are made to fight.

From an egg, a beetle all your own

Once the tiny egg hatches, your days with the larva begin. Change its food, keep its case clean. As you give it the kind of care real keepers know well, the larva molts and grows a size bigger, then another, and before long it becomes a pupa. The time until its next stage is always shown under the case. Watch it change day by day, right by its side.

Hatching, molting, pupation: each time it changes, you see the moment in an animation. When it molts, check how much its weight has grown, too.

At night, the Food, Habitat and Energy bars go down more slowly. The better you keep Food, Habitat and Energy up as you raise it, the more “Care bonus” builds up, making your beetle a little stronger in battle (up to +20%). Leave the bars low and the bonus slowly drops. You can check your current bonus anytime on the case screen or in the battle areas.

Tap your beetle and it reacts

Tap the beetle in the case, larva or adult, and it shows you all sorts of reactions. An adult may even turn sideways and move about. Try it in the game to see how yours reacts.

Beetles in the game grow much faster than in real-life keeping. “How to play” in the app explains the game in detail and how it differs from real-life keeping.

The most thrilling moment: eclosion

What shape is it taking inside the pupa? Then one day, it finally ecloses! How many mm long? Flawless, without a single blemish? Go for a new personal best! How big it grows is up to your care. You’ll get a notification when it ecloses.

Take on the forest guardians with Rock, Scissors, Paper

A pixel-art Japanese Rhinoceros Beetle and Caucasus Beetle in battle

Take your adult into battle. The rules are good old Rock, Scissors, Paper. But the mind game of reading your opponent and picking each move looks simple yet runs deep. And a big, well-raised body will surely help, too.

You’re asked to confirm before a battle starts, so an accidental tap is nothing to worry about.

How a battle plays out

  1. Each side plays one move at a time: Rock, Scissors or Paper. The winner chips away at the other’s HP; on a tie, both lose a little.
  2. Each species has its own strong move. Win with it and your beetle lands its signature move for big damage! Watch out for your opponent’s strong move, too.
  3. Length affects Power, and weight affects HP. The bigger you raise your beetle, the more reliable a partner it becomes.
  4. Whoever wipes out the other’s HP first wins. If it’s still undecided after the last move, the battle goes to a decision.

Your opponents are the beetles living in each forest, and that forest’s guardian. Head from the nearby woodland to faraway forests you’ve never seen: the deeper you go, the tougher the guardians waiting for you. Keep battling to raise your Lv, and your beetle grows a little stronger. Future updates may bring new forests and new beetles to add to your team.

Daily battles and reset tickets

You can battle 3 times a day (5 with KKLOG Plus). On days you want more, use a “Battle Reset Ticket” to reset that day’s battle count. The login bonus gives you 1 reset ticket a month (plus 2 a week with KKLOG Plus), and you may also find one when you win a battle.

Welcome the beetles you’ve dreamed of

Your first partner is the Japanese Rhinoceros Beetle, the star of summer, or the Saw Stag Beetle, proud of its big mandibles. The beetles you’ve always dreamed of are waiting for you deep in the forest, too.

  • Japanese Rhinoceros Beetle

The star of summer woodlands, proud of its grand horn that forks at the tip.

A messy eater, so its case tends to get dirty fast.

  • Saw Stag Beetle

A big male’s mandibles arch so much that they’re likened to a water buffalo’s horns.

    A hot-tempered little rascal.

  • Caucasus Beetle

From Southeast Asia, one of Asia’s largest rhino beetles. Its three horns make quite an impression.

A fiery wild one whose Energy drops quickly.

  • Japanese Stag Beetle

Nicknamed the “black diamond”, it’s the classic of stag beetle keeping in Japan.

Hardy and easygoing. Needs little looking after.

  • Hercules Beetle

From the forests of Central and South America, one of the world’s largest rhino beetles. That long horn is the stuff of dreams.

    Big body, big appetite.

  • Rainbow Stag Beetle

A stag beetle from Australia and New Guinea that shimmers in rainbow colors as the angle changes.

Tidy, and appealingly easy to keep.

Each species has its own personality, and how much care it needs varies a little. Even within a species, the bigger the adult, the more it eats and the faster its case gets dirty. The bigger your prize beetle, the more rewarding it is to care for.

Carry the line to the next generation

  1. WD
  2. F1
  3. F2
  4. …

“I’d love to raise this one’s young, too.” When you feel that way, set up a laying set and collect eggs. Sometimes a harvest turns up no eggs. Eggs get harder to find the more times you breed, but the higher your care bonus, the easier they are to find. A while after a harvest, you can set up a laying set again. From parent to child, from child to grandchild: carry a line that begins with WD on through F1 and F2 with your own hands. Give your case a name, like a breeder’s line name, and give your beetle a nickname. The beetles you’ve raised line up in the Hall of Fame, so you can look back on them anytime.

Every new beetle starts from an egg in the “Egg cup”. You can collect Japanese Rhinoceros Beetle and Saw Stag Beetle eggs anytime and keep them in the egg cup (one collected egg per species). Win in the battle areas and you sometimes find an egg, too. Eggs you find and eggs from laying sets can all be kept in the egg cup, up to 10, and hatched in any case. An egg won from a guardian is a “Guardian’s young”: a special egg that tends to grow big.

Items and the login bonus

For a larva you want to grow big, for an adult you want to grow strong: items give your daily care a boost. Food items come from the daily login bonus. You may also find items when you win a battle.

  • High-Nutrition SubstrateFor rhino beetle larvae. For a while, they put on weight more easily.
  • High-Nutrition Kinshi BottleFor stag beetle larvae. For a while, they put on weight more easily.
  • High-Protein JellyFor adults after first feeding. Builds up strength for battle.

Rhino beetle larvae grow on substrate. Stag beetle larvae are often raised in kinshi bottles, but they also grow on substrate. In the game, High-Nutrition Substrate can be used only on rhino beetle larvae, and High-Nutrition Kinshi Bottles only on stag beetle larvae.

For days away, or when you can’t wait

  • Auto-Care Ticket

When your beetle starts to need care, the app takes care of it for you. Unlike hibernation mode, your beetle keeps growing, so it’s just right for trips and busy days.

  • Warming Kit

Your beetle moves through its current stage faster. Using it on a larva won’t make it grow up any smaller.

A daily treat: the login bonus

Every day, tap “Claim” in the game’s “Login bonus” to get food suited to the beetle you’re raising. At the start of each month, Auto-Care Tickets and Warming Kits come along too. If you don’t claim it that day, it’s gone, so don’t forget.

  • More with KKLOG PlusPlus

KKLOG Plus members get more daily food just by tapping “Claim”.

  • Watch an ad for one moreiPhone, Android

If you’re not a KKLOG Plus member, watch a video ad to the end and you get one more daily food. You still get your daily food even if you don’t watch the ad.

No items are sold in the game.

Play together

  • Show off your beetle on a card

Turn the beetle you raised into a “Beetle card” that shows it off at a glance. Egg or larva, you can make a card of how it looks right now. Once it’s an adult, the card shows everything from its length, weight and whether it’s flawless to its strength and battle record. Show your friends and brag a little!

  • Battle friends and family

On KKLOG, people who follow each other are “friends”. You can battle your friends, and with KKLOG Plus, your family on the same phone too. Invite a friend to a battle from their profile. When you meet in person, show each other your QR codes with “Add friend” in the app and follow on the spot. In both kinds of battle, both sides fight at the same Lv, so it comes down to the body you raised and your skill at care.

  • Length rankings by species

The largest adult you’ve raised goes into the length rankings for its species. 1st to 3rd place get trophies, and your own rank is always shown at the bottom of the list. The rankings include breeders whose profiles show “Stats” and “Game records”.

The “KKLOG” watch face complication shows how your beetle is doing at a glance. The rectangular one shows your beetle next to its Food, Habitat and Energy bars, plus how much is left in numbers. The circular one doesn’t show your beetle, so you don’t have to worry about others seeing it.

For more detail without showing your beetle, choose “KKLOG (no image)”. Its rectangular display shows what’s left on the bars and the time until the next change.
